Merry Christmas

My family and I had a blessed Christmas! Everyone has went back to their homes and the house is really quiet once again.
Jesus is the REASON for the season and I am so thankful for the sacrifice that he gave so that we might have life!
Have a wonderful day....

Painted Furniture and Antiques

Ce Ce Caldwell's chalk and clay paints are a great way to transform that old piece of furniture into something beautiful and fresh! I am so excited about the wonderful quality of this paint - it's ALL green and Eco friendly. I have been painting in my kitchen and there is very little smell because it has no VOC's and the finishes are petroleum free. I will be posting before and after picture of my projects that I am working on. Another feature about the paint is it dries in less than an hour so you can have your finished project done in a couple of days.

Our booth in Junktique where you can purchase paint!
Stenciled Bird Pillow SOLD
Ruffled Burlap Table Runners SOLD
Beautiful English Buffet
I've also been stenciling a few pillows - I love birds, so this is my favorite pillow! Burlap and Toile table runners can also be found in my booth.
Have a blessed weekend and I will be back with before and after photos of my projects!

So Much to Be Thankful For!

I love this time of year when we get together with our family and friends to enjoy all the food and fellowship. First Thanksgiving and then in just a few short weeks, Christmas.
We celebrated Thanksgiving in Dallas again this year and the food could not have been better! We had the traditional meal of fried turkey (it's my favorite), dressing, cream of corn, sweet potato casserole, green bean wraps, dumplings (Linsi makes them and they are delicious), crab meat deviled eggs, peach cobbler, and pecan pie.
Haley and I shopped the day after Thanksgiving and we are almost finished with our list for Christmas! Hallelujah
I am so thankful for the great family that God has blessed me with.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and is getting ready for Christmas.
God Bless You

Good Food, Good Friends, and Good Shopping in Canton!!

We just got home from a great, week long trip to Canton Trade Days. We pulled our fifth wheel and camped with about 7 other couples. There is nothing like sitting by a nice fire at night listening to old stories and enjoying the fellowship with friends.
The weather was perfect for shopping and camping. I found several good treasures for my antique booth. We cooked every night except Saturday and several of us went to Lake Fork to eat at A.J.'s Fish House. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic.
I am working on several projects and when I am finished I will post some pics of the finished projects.
I have a ton of washing to get done....yuk! Have a great week and if you haven't already done so remember tomorrow is election day so don't forget to cast your vote!
God Bless You!

Pumpkins made from Old Globes

I searched for old globes to make these pumpkins. I actually had two like the one on the left but and yeah you guessed it - I dropped it and it broke into a million little pieces :(  I wish I could find more because I really like to repurpose things. Here in Texas we are getting a cool front and I am soooo ready for it! I will be doing lots of sewing the next few days to get caught up on orders and then I am off to Dallas to visit my kids and do a little treasure hunting!!
Had a wonderful day today with my sweet mom. We went to Lufkin to visit some of the antique stores  and we had the best fish tacos and a cupcake for lunch. Outside the antique mall were a couple of trucks selling food and I'm so glad we decided to try it.
Have a great weekend!!!

Warrenton/Round Top Trip was a Good Trip!

My friend and I went to Warrenton on a picking trip for our antique booths and had a great time. I know some people think that shopping for "good" stuff is easy, well I'm here to tell you it's not easy at all. We worked very hard every day to find those treasures. We stayed at a nice B&B and literally shopped until we dropped each day. I am posting a few pictures of our booths with some of our great finds. Hopefully someone will LOVE them and take them home with them! Have a blessed week.If you are ever in the area, stop by for a visit at Junktique in Jasper. We have something for everyone.

Chalkboard made from an Old Screen

I bought this old screen on one my treasure hunts a few months back and decided to make it into a chalkboard. I had to buy a piece of plywood and cut it to fit the area where the screen was removed. I love old chippy paint that is on old windows and screens. This one didn't last long in my antique booth. I have another smaller window screen that I am going to make into another chalkboard this week. If you haven't ever used the chalkboard paint it is easy to use and fun to transform projects. I also have a brass tray that will soon be a chalkboard. I suggest using a roller brush for a smoother finish. I used two coats for my screen. This one SOLD.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

I have been mixing my own chalk paint. There are several "recipes" for chalk paint on different blogs and the Internet. It mostly consist of plaster Paris, paint, and water. I signed up for a Annie Sloan paint class to compare the two. A. S. paint is quite expensive but you are supposed to be able to get several pieces of furniture painted out of one can of paint. There is no sanding and no prep when you use A.S. paint and you can virtually paint on any medium with the paint - metal, wood, plastic, etc.
So I took my class on Monday and I loved it! It only takes two coats of paint to cover your project most of the time. Several reasons that I liked the paint - it was very smooth and when applied it dries VERY quickly. I also used the dark wax and the clear wax to finish the wood samples and it was GREAT! I love the way the dark wax goes into the grooves and crevices of the wood to give it texture. I bought several cans and I will be working on several projects this week that I will post my results.
I moved my sewing room upstairs yesterday and it nearly killed my husband and I. My sewing machines and tables and equipment could not be any heavier! I still have several things to move up there but I am going to do it a little at a time today.
Have a wonderful day - I have several orders to get out today so I am off to get busy!

Painted Furniture

I got in the mood to paint furniture again. I have been researching the new technique with "Chalk Paint". After researching several resources and blogs I took the plunge and I really like it. I mixed my own painted a night stand and a Jenny Lynn twin bed. I will post some of my pictures of these when I get them finished. I also want to try the Annie Sloan chalk paint and I am going to make a trip to the city this week to buy a few cans of it. I talked with the rep that sells it and she convinced me that it's worth the $40.00 a can. I will let you know if I think that it is worth or not.
My own mixture did not cost near that much! I haven't painted furniture for quite a while. When I painted my first time I set everything up in the oven  garage! It is like a hot oven in my garage during the Summer months so I decided to just bring the paint and furniture inside and use drop cloths. So far since there is no prep when using chalk paint it's working out good.
I will be posting pictures soon! So stay tuned and have a blessed week!

Antiques and Estate Sales!

Since I am not teaching any more, I have time to go to estate sales and I have found some real treasures this year. I thought I would share some pictures of my antique booth. I am in one store now and I have my booth really stocked. Yesterday I went to the store (we are closed on Mondays) and I completely rearranged my booth so I need to take new pictures because it really looks so much better! But here are a few BEFORE the makeover! One of my favorite finds is the green jelly cabinet and another neat item is the early 1900's hair dryer that I got from an old barber shop. .

A Few Changes in My Life

I have not posted such a long time. I have been busy sewing and searching for great antiques to resale. I am really loving life these days! I decided to stay home and work on my Etsy sales and my antique booth instead of returning to teaching and coaching this year. There were several changes that occurred in our school district last year that I really didn't want to deal with so I made this decision with the support of my husband. I have not regretted it the first time. I have gotten to spend more time with my family and it is great! I traveled to Mountain View, Arkansas last week with my mom and her friends to the Dulcimer Festival. I was the "designated" driver for these sweet ladies. While they were enjoying taking music lessons I was out and about trying to find treasures. I found quite a few treasures to bring home and resale. The weather was beautiful and the food was even better. I am going to post a picture of our trip. Have a wonderful week and God Bless you!
