Antique Vanity Turned into Two Side Tables

I bought an antique vanity from a friend a few months ago and as we were loading it into my trailer it became two side tables. Instead of a vanity I gained twin tables with veneer damage and several other hiccups! But I could see potential in these ugly ducklings and the challenge was on. I immediately went to work on the twins using my sander, removing hardware, adding putty, and adding wooden appliques. 
Several weeks later, another friend came by the store looking for one side table for her sweet daughter and I mentioned that I had two at my house that I had been trying to revive but that they were in pretty sad shape. I sent her a picture and she adopted one of them to restore. She did a beautiful job and I was inspired by her success in restoring her "adopted twin". So I set out to finish what I had started with the vanity turned side table. You can go here to see her make over.
I opted to do lace embossing on the top and the drawer fronts. Embossing has become one of my favorite applications on furniture. 
I used Paint Couture's embossing medium along with a lace curtain that I purchased at a thrift store. It gave such a elegant and delicate look to this antique table. 
I applied Color of Sweden's Gustav along with Paint Couture glazes, Zinc and Weathered Wood. Artisan Enhancements Clear Finish was applied for a nice matte finish.

Twins

I've worked on many projects that have had issues but this was by far the worst yet! I am going to share several photos with you on this make over. Remember if you have a piece that is damaged you can make it look totally different with just a few tricks.

Embossed Angel Wings on Antique High Boy

I bought a nice 2 Drawer Oak High Boy with 2 doors. I knew exactly what I wanted to do this piece when I laid eyes on it! Those doors would be perfect to emboss the Angel Wing Stencil from Artisian Enhancements. Here's a BEFORE picture of the high boy. I also knew that I would not leave those original knobs on the drawers or doors. I chose Paint Couture's British Gray for my paint with a mixture of Paint Couture's Weathered Wood and Zinc for my glaze. Here's a BEFORE picture of the high boy.

And here's the AFTER. Oh what a difference a little paint will do to a piece!

The Angel Wings were embossed using VP Antico by Artisan Enhancements. I also used the color shaper to push the VP Antico through the stencil to create a nice raised textured look. After the VP Antico was dry, I applied one coat of Paint Couture's Matte Finish, and then the glaze mix was applied. 

In the picture above you may have noticed the doors are missing hardware. I couldn't decide what I wanted on those cute doors. I finally painted two pulls with British Gray and topped them with Paint Couture's gilding wax in Gunmetal Tulle. I love that if you have hardware that's the wrong color, no worries it's an easy fix! Nothing a little paint and gilding wax can't transform.

White Shabby Chic Vanity

Before

I moved into my new booth space in Buna yesterday and it really is going to be cute shop. We traveled to Houston today for a Doctors appt. for my Dad. Everything looked good and we go back next Weds. for a CT. scan. They are going to decide rather or not if it's time for the drainage tube to be removed or not. Dad is doing so much better and he is getting stronger each day. Thanks to all of you who have and who are praying for his recovery.

I came home and finished painting a vanity that I have been working on and I have some before and after photos to share with you. I need to decide which booth I am going to put it in! I have a chest of drawers and a vanity that I am going to begin tomorrow. I can't decide what color to paint them. I tend to have that problem when I begin a project but I will have to sand them and prime them so I still have a little time to decide which color I like. I may do pink this time. I finished the chest of drawers today. I think it may be my favorite painted piece of furniture that I have completed.

A Sneak Peek

I took a few pictures of my latest project today so I could share what the chest looks like at this point. I sanded it and then I put one coat of Kiltz, and in these pictures it has one coat of paint. I will put another coat of paint and then I will glaze and shabby it. I also posted a few pictures of my weekend with my two girls.

We got out early from school today because of the Rodeo parade and Rodeo. The Jasper Rodeo has always been something special for the town of Jasper. We plan to go Friday and Saturday night. My favorite part of the entire Rodeo is the Strawberry Lemonade and the Clowns!

I'm painting again!

The weather has been good for painting furniture and I am doing just that! I bought an antique chest of drawers while in Round Top and I have sanded it and primed it. I also painted a ladder this week. I painted it a beautiful aqua blue with a glaze. I painted a mirror for Haley earlier in the year and I loved the aqua color so I decided to paint the ladder the same color and use the same technique with the glaze. I think I am going to paint the chest of drawers this same color. I am constantly looking at books and magazines to get ideas about painting furniture and what colors to try.

I find myself almost consumed with thoughts of what I am going to create next. I love working on projects and seeing the finished product. I am going to post a picture of the chest of drawers "before" and when I'm finished I will show you an "after". I will also show you the oval mirror so you can see the aqua blue color! Please continue to pray for my Dad. He is home and working on getting stronger. We took him to the doctor today and they ran a CT scan and did his labs to see how he is doing. He still has a drainage tube on the cyst and it is still draining.

I Painted furniture today!

I got up early and did some much needed house cleaning! I have been neglecting my house keeping chores for several weeks. I've been so busy with coaching and on the road that I had fallen behind. So this morning I mopped and vacuumed the house. I'm still not done with all the cleaning but I'm getting there. Today was such a beautiful day that I couldn't resist painting a few pieces of furniture. After church, we had lunch with a good friend and then I came home and got busy with my painting projects. I finished two more dining room chairs and I put the first coat on of black paint on a small desk that I bought. I painted the dining room chairs black also. I have two more left to paint and I'll be finished with that project. I plan to paint the pedestal and the underneath part of my dining room table and then later on the hutch. I will post pictures of before and after when I get time. Please continue to pray for my Dad. He is still in a special care facility trying to get stronger. He is still not eating so therefore he is very weak. Also, pray for my Mom as she goes each day and takes care of him and encourages him to try and get stronger. Often times, we forget those that are the caregivers in our prayers and thoughts. Have a great week.

Furniture Painting and a Special Prayer Request

I came home from work today and got busy painting my furniture pieces. I painted the dresser a pretty mint green, the chest of drawers black, and the tilting mirror turquoise(my favorite new paint color)! I am going to glaze the turquoise mirror and then add antique gold touches. I haven't tried the technique of glazing and so this will be a first for me. I have been dying to paint something turquoise since the decorating show last season painted a bedside table turquoise. I thought it looked so good in the bedroom and it just gave the room that punch of color that it needed. They used a french style table with pretty curvy legs. I would love to find one just like it but all the ones that I have found on my trips have been very pricey! I am doing the mirror for Haley's room. She has the black furniture in her room at school and think this color will be great with her decor. I also painted a black ladder for her apartment. She plans to lean it against the wall in her living room and hang blankets on it. I'm posting a picture of the mirror but remember I need to apply another coat of paint and then I will glaze it and antique it, so it's not finished but I think the color is awesome. I have special prayer request for a dear friend of mine that was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer incurable and inoperable. She had her first chemotherapy on Monday. She has a daughter that is a senior in High School and a son that is married and one grand daughter. She is a christian and believes in prayer and God's healing. So please say a prayer for her and her family during these trying times.

Painted Furniture

I painted a chest of drawers shabby pink and a vanity shabby green. These are both going to be put in my antique booth space. Those terrible black bugs that we get in southeast Texas are still here and right now painting is almost out of the question. I worked on my space at Samples of Yesteryear today. The roof came off of the other antique store and I am having to move my things from there over to my other booth space. It may be a month before the store gets repaired.

As soon as the bugs are gone I am going to paint some of my other pieces of furniture.
