Beautiful Weather

The weather here is great! It was in the low 30's this morning and warmed up by the afternoon. It makes my softball class much nicer when the weather is cooler. I have been working out with our PE classes and it makes such a difference in how I feel. I haven't had a Diet Dr. Pepper since last Thursday. I am only drinking tea, water, and milk. I am so addicted to those Diet Dr. Pepper's it's ridiculous.

Another Win for UT!

Matt is on the left side of the guy in the orange and white striped shirt. He has a beige cap on and shades. A friend of his took this picture from the TV screen and sent it to me.

I went to Dallas this weekend to visit Linsi and had a great time. We ate good food and hit a few estate sales. I found a few neat treasures on my hunt for antiques. I bought a table, a chair, and some other things. One estate sale that we went to on Sunday the lady was 106 years old and she was in a nursing home and the family was liquidating her furniture and belongings. It was a cute little 2 bedroom cottage style home. I loved the kitchen. It had the really old gas stove and the old type cabinets. I can't imagine living to be a 106 years old. The ladies at the sale said that she was of sound mind and understood what they family was doing with the house and her things. Linsi and I watched the game on Saturday and it made my stomach hurt I was so nervous. This week the game will be just as good against Texas Tech. I will be going to the Houston Quilt Show with my Mom and my sister Friday and then Mom and I will head to Canton on Saturday morning. I'm excited about both! My weekends have been so busy that I have not had time to work on my house projects. I am going to try and get something done this week.

Go Longhorns!

I had a fantastic time in Austin this past weekend. The UT/Missouri game was a great game even though I nearly got ran over on my way there! We walked for 10 miles from Haley's apartment and then stood the entire game and walked back! I love going to the games but it is like you've played the whole game when it's over! Those college games are hard core! You definitely get a good workout. I didn't find very much as far as antiques go but I bought a few small items. I didn't take very many pictures either but I will post later what I have. We also went to the UT Baseball game on Sunday. It was a beautiful day for baseball. I am headed to Dallas this weekend to see Linsi. Have a Terrific Tuesday.

Go Longhorns and the Kitchen is looking good!

Last year Haley and I at a UT game.....Fun Fun!
The painter has been working on the kitchen cabinets and the ceilings. It is looking really good. I am going to buy fabric for a curtain in the kitchen and my sewing room. I'm looking for new light fixtures for the kitchen. I found some that I really like in the new Pottery Barn catalogue. I am going to look for pulls for the cabinet doors and drawers this weekend while I am in Austin. I am leaving right after school tomorrow to head to Austin. Linsi is coming in from Dallas a wedding in San Antonio so I will get to visit with her too. I bought season tickets to the UT football games and this will be my first one this Saturday that I have attended. I've been so busy that I haven't gotten to go. I love going to the games and I'm excited about the Missouri game. I will take alot of pics while I'm at the game and post them when I get back home.

Integrity and Character

Being a teacher and coach for many years I've always tried to instill in the kids how important integrity, character, self-discipline and responsibility are to yourself as well as the team. As a parent, I also tried to teach this to my own kids which hopefully they learned some of that! Most kids are good kids and have good role models whether it's a parent or a relative or friend that they model themselves after. I had an older friend tell me when my kids were small, "Nancy, you don't raise your children for yourself". That statement is so true.
I see some kids today that are only concerned about themselves and what THEY want. And sadly enough the parents are supporting that type of attitude. I feel sorry for them when they actually get in the real world and find out that it's not always about themselves! Okay, I could go on and on about certain things that really get under my skin but I'm going to stop there.
I'm going to post a few pictures today of my antique booth and some of my projects that I've completed. I have two more pieces of furniture to paint and I will be caught up. I have two very old trunks that I am going to clean up and try to refinish. I have not refinished trunks before so it's a new task for me. I'll have to do a little research and find out how to do that!

Painted projects finished

I finished the mirror, ladder, black chest of drawers, and the antique green dresser. I'll post pictures. I am going to try and finish a pillow for Haley's apartment and curtains for her bedroom before I make the trip to Austin. I also painted a paper towel holder that I've had since I married 29 years ago. It was absolutely the ugliest paper towel holder in existence but I have painted it black and hopefully saved it from being tossed. My husband is back from his hunting trip in Canada. He left last Monday and got home around 6:00 Sunday. To my surprise he took MY NEW suitcase on his hunting trip and now it's completely torn up! How does that happen? And as I watched him unload MY suitcase he took out his "kill" from MY suitcase. Why did the dead birds have to be put in MY suitcase? I'm amazed what the other gender does sometimes! It's one of those nice suitcases that have the turn on a dime wheels that make life so much easier in the airports and just in general. Well so much for life being easier for me and my suitcase because it will definitely never be the same after this hunting trip to Canada. I ask myself "Why" do I bother trying to figure out a man? I must learn to hide my special little items that mean so much to me in better places! He said that he looked everywhere for one of his and he couldn't find one anywhere. Well that could be because our son demolished it on a skiing trip last December. There's something about suitcases and the men in our family. I'm glad he had a wonderful hunt and killed lots of birds and that he is safe back home. He hasn't flown in years and swears that he is not going to fly ever again! He didn't realize security was so strict especially when you travel with a rifle. The next time he goes to Canada to hunt he plans on driving.....what a lonnnnnnnng trip to go hunting!

A little under the weather

I was feeling fine until Thursday night and the dreaded sore throat and headache hit me. I went to the Doctor Friday morning. My doctor diagnosed strep throat which has been going around at school. I got my meds and went home and went to bed! I feel much better today. I'm going to finish up some of my painting projects today. I'm going to Austin this next weekend to watch the Longhorns play Missouri and to see my kids! I'm excited about seeing the kids and watching the game. The Austin City Wide Garage sale is also on Sat. and Sunday so I'm hoping I have time to go look. My kids were happy that the Horns won in the Red River Shootout yesterday. I'll post pictures of my projects when I'm finished.

Cooler Weather

I love these cool mornings that we've had the past two days! I had a wonderful afternoon out with my parents yesterday. We went to Beaumont and I purchased the lining for my "At Home in the Woods" quilt and then we went to eat catfish at a really good restaurant. I am going to go home today and put the second coat of paint on my dresser, mirror and chest of drawers. The desk that I put the primer on sold before I got to paint it black. A colleague of mine is moving into a new place and she wanted to buy it and refinish it herself so she bought it. I also sold her a twin bed that I was going to paint so I am on the hunt for another one! Does the hunt ever end??? If you ask me the answer is "no", because the hunt is the funnest part! Have a Thankful Thursday.

Furniture Painting and a Special Prayer Request

I came home from work today and got busy painting my furniture pieces. I painted the dresser a pretty mint green, the chest of drawers black, and the tilting mirror turquoise(my favorite new paint color)! I am going to glaze the turquoise mirror and then add antique gold touches. I haven't tried the technique of glazing and so this will be a first for me. I have been dying to paint something turquoise since the decorating show last season painted a bedside table turquoise. I thought it looked so good in the bedroom and it just gave the room that punch of color that it needed. They used a french style table with pretty curvy legs. I would love to find one just like it but all the ones that I have found on my trips have been very pricey! I am doing the mirror for Haley's room. She has the black furniture in her room at school and think this color will be great with her decor. I also painted a black ladder for her apartment. She plans to lean it against the wall in her living room and hang blankets on it. I'm posting a picture of the mirror but remember I need to apply another coat of paint and then I will glaze it and antique it, so it's not finished but I think the color is awesome. I have special prayer request for a dear friend of mine that was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer incurable and inoperable. She had her first chemotherapy on Monday. She has a daughter that is a senior in High School and a son that is married and one grand daughter. She is a christian and believes in prayer and God's healing. So please say a prayer for her and her family during these trying times.

Before and After coming soon!

I will have several before and after projects very soon. After church, I got busy and primed a desk, a dresser, a mirror, and a tall set of drawers. I am using paint colors green, black, and turquoise. The green vanity that I have in my booth space is getting a mirror added to it! When I bought the vanity in Austin the man had broken the mirror that went with it but he still had the frame and hardware. I decided to take it just in case I decided to get the mirror replaced. When we refinished our hall bath we took the mirror down and replaced it with a smaller mirror. I took that mirror today and they said that they could cut that mirror to fit the antique frame. I also had another vanity mirror that was broken and I was able to salvage enough to cut a mirror for it also. So the old mirror from the bathroom made two mirrors for the antique vanities! By the way, we are supposed to have someone come and work on the kitchen project! This is the 3rd painter that has said that he would do the job. Hopefully the 3rd one is the charm! I am so ready to get that project completed. He is also going to paint the master bath, master bedroom, and my new sewing room. So keep your fingers crossed that he follows through with the job. I promise to post pictures when he gets started on the painting. I leave you with a few pictures from Wellspring Bed and Breakfast in Round Top Texas. Have a Magnificent Monday!

Catching up!

I am trying to catch up with my blogging! I have been really busy this week and my blogging site has fell by the wayside. I decided this week to rent another space at the antique store and I have been moving things in all week. Remember the pink chest of drawers that I painted they sold this week! The black bugs have left so I am painting some of my furniture again! I have quite a few pieces to get ready for my booth space. I love seeing the furniture turn into a totally different look when I paint it. I plan to paint a desk white shabby, another desk shabby black, and another green dresser! Green seems to be a good seller. When I finish these pieces I will post the finished look! Have a great week!
